I think people are sometimes unrealistically expecting there to be no delays or no extra costs. I came into this knowing how construction worked and was very happy that my funds were being properly used on the house. The house was finished in 13 months and extra costs were only 5% over contract price. You hear horror stories of people giving deposits and never hear from the contractor again.
